Jim Taylor of MixIt helped to raise £25,000 for a local school that works with over 100 children who have complex learning needs.
Jim Taylor, who regularly organises charity events for local causes, is part of a group that are striving to renovate Corbets Tey School in Upminster, Essex. The school is actively fundraising for a significant renovation that would include a new soft play room, as the existing facility is housed in a dilapidated, old modular building.
On Friday 6th November, over 200 members of the construction industry made their way to Prince Regent Hotel in Essex where Jim Taylor and his team had organised not just an impressive charity dinner, but also an action packed evening of amateur boxing. The fight card ranged from young fighters involved in their first ever exhibition fight in front of an audience through to UK title fights for some of the more experienced boxers.
Half way through the evening, attendees were shown a video to remind them why the event had been organised and more information about the great cause they were supporting. Corbets Tey Headteacher Emma Allen had the following to say about the event:
"We were overwhelmed by the generosity of all those who organised, supported and donated so kindly both in the preparation for the event and during the evening itself. We thank you on behalf of all of the children and staff at Corbets Tey School."
Attendees dug deep into their pockets, pledging donations as well as bidding big on the auction items for the evening. The total amount raised, in the region of £25,000, will make a significant impact toward the fundraising total required for the new development. However, being actively involved in the local construction industry, Jim Taylor is planning on cashing in a few favours to help bring the construction cost of the project down.
The end result will be a brand new section of the school which has better access, better facilities and can be used by all the students. If you would like to help support this great cause, you can find more information and donate using the link below:
