- MixIt arrives in Barking
- MixIt Concrete has opened its newest plant in Barking, Essex. This is the third concrete plant the London based
concrete firm now operates and gives MixIt even better accessibility to be able to serve clients in London and Essex.
The £1.2 million pound development in River Road, Barking includes both a ready mix concrete plant as well as an
aggregate recycling plant. MixIt has a heavy focus on being a green company, and the recycling plant means that the
company will be using reclaimed aggregate where appropriate. This means there will be less dredging of seabeds,
thereby preserving natural aggregate reserves.
- The high tech development has set a challenge for MixIt and its staff. Previously, the capacity of each plant was 100
cubic metres per hour from Bow and 60 cubic metres from Tilbury. However, the Barking plant has the capacity to
produce 120 cubic metres every hour, thereby increasing MixIt's capacity by 66%.
Jim Taylor, who setup MixIt concrete over 22 years ago, said he chose the substantial site in Barking largely for accessibility. "It gives me far better accessibility to the London market. Now we do not have to worry about the Blackwall Tunnel, we will be able to provide clients better access to ready mix concrete for all of their projects".
The plant in Barking also uses the recycled concrete materials to create large concrete blocks, interlocking bricks
that can be used to build walls on building sites. Jim has already used these building blocks to construct the raw
materials area of the Barking site, and also has enquiries coming in for use on other construction sites.
MixIt's Barking plant puts the company among the country's fastest growing concrete suppliers, and with more trucks already on order, there is a lot more still to come.
